Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will serve as team captains for the All-Star game.

The selection process for the All-Star roster, which typically involves a combination of fan voting, media voting, and player voting.

The starters for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game will be chosen by fans, who will cast 50% of the votes. 25% of the total comes from media input and active NBA players.

According to the All-Star Rules, the Player with the most votes in their respective conferences will be the Captain and has the privilege to select the team of their choice.

On Saturday, January 21 at 11:59 p.m. NBA All-Star Voting presented by AT & T came to an end. And Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron will be leading the Western Conference and Milwaukee Bucks Forward Giannis will be leading Eastern Conference.

Giannis leads the top overall slot in the Eastern Conference, Antetokounmpo has moved 132,014 votes ahead of Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant. Kyrie Irving of Brooklyn and Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers are the East's top two guards, respectively.

LeBron James leads the Western conference in terms of Forwards Denver nuggets Star Nikola Jokic grabbed the second spot. Followed by LA Lakers Anthony DAvis. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is ranked first in the guard position group and is 246,167 votes ahead of Luka Doni of the Dallas Mavericks, who is ranked second.

The criteria used to determine which player is deserving the All-Star honor :

Each team's starting lineup is decided by a combination of player, fan, and media voting. Each team has a 12-man roster, with the head coaches selecting the reserves, and seven players from their respective conferences. Voting for one's own players is not permitted for coaches. The NBA commissioner chooses a replacement if a chosen player is injured and unable to compete.

The main 5 players from each conference will be 3 front courts and 2 guards that are selected by the Overall Fan voting, Media, and Player voting.

Coaches used to select their Reserve players in their respective conferences but can’t select their own team players. Two guards, three frontcourt players, and two wild cards are chosen by each coach.

The impact of injuries on the All-Star roster :

The NBA commissioner chooses a replacement player for the roster if a player is injured and unable to compete in the contest. The All-Star Game coach, who is not bound by the commissioner's addition to the roster, selects the substitute in the starting lineup if it is for a fan-selected starter.

Recently Traded to Phoenix suns. Kevin Durant will not participate in the All-Star game since he is still recovering from a torn MCL in his knee. Star player Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans will also be out due to a hamstring strain.
