Trae Young may have some explaining to do to his Atlanta Hawks teammates, and especially the rookie class. The Hawks guard posted a social media message in support of the Houston Rockets' rising star Reed Sheppard. That led to some NBA fans questioning why he hasn't acknowledged the Hawks' rookies, who are working hard at the Summer League.
The 2024/25 NBA season does not begin until late October, but the league's younger players, rookies and prospects are currently competing in the Summer League in Las Vegas.
A post on Trae Young's X account, formerly known as "Twitter," gave a shout out to Reed Sheppard after his electric performance on Sunday night. The sharpshooter recorded 22 points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals in a win over the Washington Wizards. Young responded to the big outing:
"Reed Sheppard nice y’all !!"

The message definitely rubbed some fans the wrong way. It is especially concerning considering the Hawks had the first pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, which they used to select French forward Zaccharie Risacher. Young is yet to praise his own new teammate, but took time out of his busy schedule to show some support for Sheppard, the third pick in the draft.
"How bout whoever yall drafted at #1," stated one fan.
"No tweet about your own draft pick", commented another fan.
"Can you tweet about your teams pick dude ?" added a fan.
"Dude you can’t even acknowledge risacher publicly but tweet this ?" said another fan
Young has not featured for the Hawks since their play-in loss to the Chicago Bulls on April 18. He may have to smooth things over with his teammates when he does return to training with the organization.
