Maxi Kleber signs new four-year, $35m deal

It's no secret the Mavericks came up shot on the first day of free agency, and the franchise has now opted to sign Maxi Kleber to a long-term deal. The 27-year-old German signed with them back in 2017 and despite averaging less than 19 minutes per game over 143 NBA appearances, Marc Stein is reporting they will sign him to a four-year $35 million contract.

During the 18-19 season, Kleber averaged 6.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and one assist in 21.2 minutes per game. He shot 45% from the floor, while also increasing his accuracy from beyond the arc to 35%. However, deciding to throw such a huge sum of money at Kleber highlights their desperation to build somewhat of a competitive roster around Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis going forward.
