After advancing past the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets, the Portland Trail Blazers were swept by the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 Western Conference Finals. The defeat highlighted Portland's lack of depth from the bench, and the Trail Blazers have since lost its backup point guard in Seth Curry.

As the 19-20 season swiftly approaches, Portland has no senior backup options to Damian Lillard - and the reserve unit also lacks scorers. Crawford could solve both these issues at once, and the veteran is accustomed to the franchise after spending the 11-12 season in Portland.

While Crawford has spent much of the past five years playing at shooting guard, his ball-handling skills remain strong, and he could easily find himself playing 20 minutes a night in the Portland rotation.
