More than 100 teams and 450 players took part in the NBA Jam, held in Hyderabad over the weekend of September 5-7, 2013. Those who took part were vying for a ticket to the national finals in Mumbai, and a chance to play against NBA Legends, Horace Grant, Ron Harper, and Peja Stojakovic.
The inter-college 3×3 basketball event is quite different from the NBA 3X, which was introduced last year in India. This time around it is the whole package – basketball and music combined. Along with the regular competition, there were also fun events such as:
- Basketball clinics- Three point shootouts- Skills challenges- Gaming zone (NBA 2K13 on PS3 consoles)

The national finalists of the three-point shootout will also have an opportunity to shoot against two-time three-point shootout champion, Stojakovic.
The national finals will be a whole new experience, as it will feature a small scale NBA arena with an emcee, lights, sound, video among other forms of entertainment.
A player from Sr. Boys team, Loyola Academy and P.U. Degree College said, “The contest was really gripping and fast-paced. We are very excited to have won the tournament. It would be a dream come true to share the same court with NBA Legends.”
While the event was a new experience for one and all, there were some who had a prior dose of the NBA’s competitions. Take Prudhvi, a 17-year-old point guard who played for ‘Losers’. They won the 2012 edition of NBA 3X -U18 at Hyderabad.
They defeated the Hustlers 21-2 in their first game, with Prudhvi scoring ten points. He stated that a whole year can make a huge difference in terms of completion. “The competition level has gone up. The set up this year is superb with interactive activities like play stations, 3-point competitions and music concerts.”
Following are the results:
