Just two months into the 2024-25 NBA season, the race for the NBA Most Improved Player (MIP) award will be close until the end. There are plenty of candidates to choose from, with many stars such as Tyler Herro and Cade Cunningham stepping up to their roles as No. 1 options on offense.
Jalen Williams might not be the star player for the OKC Thunder, but he's doing the little things that make them a contender. The same can be said about Evan Mobley and Jalen Johnson, who have been vital to their respective team's success this season.

NBA Most Improved Player Rankings - Week 10
#1 - Evan Mobley | Forward | Cleveland Cavaliers
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 2
- Average (Week 10) - 24.0 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 5.0 APG, 0.5 SPG, 2.0 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 18.8 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 3.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.4 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 15.7 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 3.2 APG, 0.9 SPG, 1.4 BPG
Evan Mobley is back atop the NBA Most Improved Player power rankings after Week 10. Mobley was exceptional in the Cleveland Cavaliers' two wins last week against the Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets.
The 23-year-old big man dropped 26 points, five rebounds and six assists on the Nuggets. The latest odds are not favoring him as the frontrunner for the MIP award, but there's plenty of time before the voters cast their choices.
#2 - Jalen Williams | Forward | OKC Thunder
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 1
- Average (Week 10) - 17.8 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 5.8 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.3 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 21.2 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 5.1 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.7 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 19.1 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.6 BPG
According to the latest odds, Jalen Williams has the second-best chance of taking home the Most Improved Player of the Year award. Williams did not have any eye-popping performances in Week 10, so he dropped one spot.
Nevertheless, the OKC Thunder went a perfect 4-0 last week. Williams' best performance was a near-triple-double against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday. He had 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in their 130-106 victory.
#3 - Jalen Johnson | Forward | Atlanta Hawks
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 5
- Average (Week 10) - 22.5 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 4.8 APG, 2.5 SPG, 0.8 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 19.9 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 5.4 APG, 1.5 SPG, 1.1 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 16.0 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 3.6 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.8 BPG
Jalen Johnson has been jumping up and down the Most Improved Player power rankings weekly. Johnson was fifth last week, but moved to No. 3 after an incredible Week 10 for the Atlanta Hawks.
The Duke product had 30 points, 15 rebounds and four assists in the Hawks' 141-133 win against the Chicago Bulls. He followed it up with 28 points, 13 rebounds and five assists two days later versus the Miami Heat.
#4 - Tyler Herro | Guard | Miami Heat
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 4
- Average (Week 10) - 23.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 7.5 APG, 0.3 SPG, 0.3 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 24.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 5.2 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.1 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 20.8 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.5 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.1 BPG
The latest odds are favoring Tyler Herro to take home the Most Improved Player of the Year award right now. Herro has turned into the number one option for the Miami Heat due to the uncertainty surrounding Jimmy Butler's future.
Herro has not only set career highs in points per game, but also in rebounds and assists per game. He had 27 points, six rebounds and nine assists in a win over the Houston Rockets on Sunday. He was also in a fight with Amen Thompson toward the end of the game.
#5 - Cade Cunningham | Guard | Detroit Pistons
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 3
- Average (Week 10) - 23.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 9.3 APG, 0.3 SPG, 0.0 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 24.0 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 9.7 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.9 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 22.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 7.5 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.4 BPG
If the Detroit Pistons continue to win games, Cade Cunningham will likely get named an All-Star for the first time. Cunningham has stayed healthy this season and has made the jump many expected him to do last year.
The former first pick had 33 points, four rebounds and 10 assists in the Pistons' unbelievable 114-113 comeback against the Sacramento Kings. He just needs to avoid injuries to remain in contention for the Most Improved Player of the Year award.
