There's a new No. 1 in this week's NBA Most Improved Player Rankings presented by Sportskeeda. Cade Cunningham has overtaken Evan Mobley for the top spot after the Cleveland Cavaliers big man missed some games due to a calf injury.
Tyler Herro also suffered an injury, but it's not very serious and he won't miss a lot of games to affect his eligibility. Norman Powell stayed in the top five and even moved up by one spot. Jalen Williams is barely clinging to a spot, with players such as Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Victor Wembanyama not far behind.
Let's look at the latest Most Improved Player rankings for Week 13 of the 2024-25 NBA season.

NBA Most Improved Player Rankings - Week 13
#1 - Cade Cunningham | Guard | Detroit Pistons
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 2
- Average (Week 13) - 25.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 9.5 APG, 0.8 SPG, 1.3 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 24.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 9.4 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.9 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 22.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 7.5 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.4 BPG
The Detroit Pistons went from being the worst team in the NBA to a real playoff contender in just one season. Cade Cunningham is the main reason for their success, leading them to a possible postseason appearance for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Cunningham will likely be an All-Star this season and is the current favorite to win the Most Improved Player of the Year. It's going to be a close race and there are a lot of factors to consider.
#2 - Evan Mobley | Forward | Cleveland Cavaliers
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 1
- Average (Week 13) - 5.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 0.0 APG, 0.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 18.6 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 2.9 APG, 0.9 SPG, 1.4 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 15.7 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 3.2 APG, 0.9 SPG, 1.4 BPG
Evan Mobley's spot atop the Most Improved Player rankings has been taken over. Mobley is now second due to missing the majority of Week 13 because of a calf injury.
Just like Cade Cunningham, Mobley is also a potential first-time All-Star. His numbers are not as eye-popping as Cunningham's, but his biggest improvement is his assertiveness on offense.
#3 - Tyler Herro | Guard | Miami Heat
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 3
- Average (Week 13) - 20.0 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 5.5 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.0 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 24.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 5.0 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.1 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 20.8 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.5 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.1 BPG
Tyler Herro remained third in this week's Most Improved Player power rankings. Herro missed one of their scheduled games due to a groin injury, which is not deemed serious.
Jimmy Butler's return from his seven-game suspension might have affected Herro's performances. Nevertheless, Butler will likely be gone from the Miami Heat by the trade deadline.
#4 - Norman Powell | Guard | LA Clippers
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 5
- Average (Week 13) - 24.0 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.0 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 23.7 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.1 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 13.9 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 1.1 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Norman Powell is having an All-Star season at the age of 31. The LA Clippers thought they'd miss Paul George's production, but Powell has stepped up to become one of the best scorers in the NBA this season.
The one-time champ climbed to the fourth spot in this week's Most Improved Player rankings. He has to monitor his games played given that he's already missed a few games in December and is currently dealing with a back injury.
#5 - Jalen Williams | Forward | OKC Thunder
- Last Week's Ranking: No. 4
- Average (Week 13) - 21.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 4.3 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.7 BPG
- Average (This Season) - 20.7 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 5.1 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.7 BPG
- Average (Last Season) - 19.1 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.6 BPG
Jalen Williams is barely hanging on in the top five of the Most Improved Player power rankings. Williams is still having a fantastic season, but he has to do more just like in the first two months.
Several players are gunning to be in the top five like the Atlanta Hawks duo of Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels. Victor Wembanyama continues to captivate the league, so it's not hard to see some voters give him the nod.
