Although the All-Star game doesn't count for anything in the season, lifting the MVP award after dropping a 50-piece does help his narrative amongst viewers. Stephen Curry sank a record-shattering 16 three-pointers in the game on 70% shooting till he missed his last six shots.
He is seemingly out of his long shooting slump except the occasional cold night from downtown. The Golden State Warriors still hold the second-best record in the league at 42-17, despite their string of recent losses. If Curry comes back from the break firing on all cylinders, his award case will strengthen.
#2 Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to put on a show, and if the Milwaukee Bucks had a better record, he would have been the clear frontrunner.
He erupted for a 50-point performance against Indiana, and then dropped a near 32-point triple double against the 76ers. He did so while shooting at an absurd 68% from the field and a surprising 57% from beyond the arc.
The Bucks are currently fifth in the East with a 36-24 record, and are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Joel Embiid and the Sixers.
#1 Joel Embiid

The Philadelphia 76ers are now third in the East, and Joel Embiid deserves all the praise for that. They never had Ben Simmons for any game this season, and are still without James Harden.
Additionally, they lost Seth Curry and Andre Drummond from the rotation, but still ended up beating the reigning champions Milwaukee Bucks on the road. Embiid exploded for 42 points and 14 rebounds, and carried the undermanned 76ers to a 123-120 victory.
