NBA confirms ban on 'Ninja-style' headbands

Last week, it was reported that NBA players had been told that they could no longer sport 'ninja-style' headbands for the forthcoming season, and NBA spokesman Mike Bass has confirmed to ESPN that the league has banned the accessory.

The ninja-style headwear is not part of the NBA uniform and hasn't been through the league approval process. Teams have raised concerns regarding safety and consistency of size, length and how they are tied. We notified our teams in May that they would not be part of this season's uniforms.

Bass also stated that the NBA never approved the headgear, and only allowed players to sport it last season to avoid disruption. Among those that wore the headgear before the ban came into effect were Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Montrezl Harrell.
