We officially have one-quarter of the 2024-25 NBA season in the record books already. That means the best is yet to come in the most prominent annual basketball tournament on Earth.

Some Eastern Conference teams still have a chance to enter the playoff race despite a slow start. But teams from the Western Conference know they can't afford to get into a slump.

The playoff race promises to be one for the ages, and going cold now could come back to haunt multiple teams when it matters the most. With that in mind, let's take a look at the top 10 teams in the NBA this past week.

NBA power rankings after Week 6 of the 2024-25 season

#10 San Antonio Spurs

Don't look now, but the Gregg Popovich-less San Antonio Spurs are hitting their stride right now. The Harrison Barnes pickup is paying off, and with them getting healthy, they're creeping in on the Play-In and playoff race.

The Spurs have won seven of their last 10 games, and they're now sitting on an 11-9 record. That would be good for No. 5 in the East, yet they're No. 10 in the West.

Unsurprisingly, it has everything to do with Victor Wembanyama, who's averaging a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double with 3.6 blocks per game.

#9 Los Angeles Clippers

Tyronn Lue continues to prove that he's one of the best tacticians in the game. Few coaches have been able to do more with less than him. The Los Angeles Clippers are 13-9 and have lost just three of their last 10 matchups.

Despite not having Norman Powell or Kawhi Leonard to help their offense, this team continues to suffocate their rivals with their hard-nosed defense. They currently have the fourth-best defensive rating in the league at 107.7 right now.

#8 Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks were without Luka Doncic for the past five games as he nursed a wrist injury. Even so, they won four games in a row, and they've won eight of their last 10.

Jason Kidd shook the starting lineup and sent Daniel Gafford to the second unit. Naji Marshall has also been a key contributor, both off the bench and as a starter, and they're currently sitting on a 13-8 record.

#7 Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies overcame a slow start to the season. They're 10-3 at home for the season, and while their 4-4 record on the road isn't as impressive, they still have the third-best record in the entire league.

Taylor Jenkins' team has found a true gem in Jaylen Wells, who's averaging 12.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game on almost 40% from the floor. He's been a major boost to their offense since being inserted into their starting lineup.

#6 Milwaukee Bucks

It's safe to say that the Milwaukee Bucks have put their early-season woes in the past. Doc Rivers' team has won eight of their last 10 games, and they're now 8-3 at home for the season.

The Bucks have climbed all the way to the No. 5 spot in the Eastern Conference, and they're currently riding a six-game winning streak. Giannis Antetokounmpo is playing at an MVP level, averaging 32.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game on 60.9% from the floor.

#5 Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to be one of the best teams in the league, even without Chet Holmgren. Mark Daigneault's team is holding their opponents to 98.4 points per 100 possessions in their wins, which is by far the best number in the entire league.

They also have the third-best net rating in the league at a whopping 10.1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has this team sitting atop the Western Conference with a 15-5 record, which includes four wins in their last five contests.

#4 Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics could've entered the week at the top of the list, but they missed a chance to take down the Cleveland Cavaliers and claim the No. 1 spot in the Eastern Conference. Even so, they're still 8-2 in their last 10 games, and they've lost just four games all season.

The Celtics currently trail the Cavaliers by 1.5 games for the best record in the Association. They're 7-2 at home and 9-2 on the road. Joe Mazzulla's team boasts the third-highest true shooting percentage in the league (60.1%) while also playing lockdown defense.

#3 Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic have been the best team in the league over the last 10 games, winning nine of those. They're also the only team that's still undefeated at home, going 9-0 to start the season.

The Magic have climbed all the way to the No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference, and that's with Paolo Banchero still out with an injury. Franz Wagner is playing like a superstar, averaging 23.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game.

#2 Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets had some quality wins last week. They took down the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder, climbing to the No. 2 spot in the West and proving that they're no fluke.

Ime Udoka's team is playing suffocating defense, holding their opponents to just 104.3 points per 100 possessions, the second-lowest mark in the league. They have a plethora of talent and seven players averaging double digits in scoring.

#1 Cleveland Cavaliers

Once again, the Cleveland Cavaliers sit at the top spot on this list. Kenny Atkinson's team dropped back-to-back games to the slumping Atlanta Hawks, but they bounced back in a big way to take down the Boston Celtics.

They still have the best record in the league at 18-3, going 7-3 in their last 10, and 11-1 at home. They lead the league in both effective field goal percentage (59.6) and true shooting percentage (62.4), and their offense might be the most entertaining to watch right now.
