He was selected 4th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Seattle Super Sonics (now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder). In his rookie season, he recorded his first triple double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists he was named to the NBA All rookie first team. His evolution as a player has been a major factor for the team’s incredible rise in the ranking and eventually making it to the Finals in 2012.

He improved each season and in the 2010-2011 season he was named to the NBA All second team and was named a reserve for the West All Stars. Prior to the season, he earned a gold medal at the FIBA championships in Istanbul representing USA. That season they lost to eventual champions Dallas Mavericks in the Conference Finals.
Next season his improvement continued and OKC made it to the NBA finals with him once again being voted as a reserve for the West All Stars and named in the NBA All second team. He scored a career high 45 points against Minnesota in a double overtime win.
In Game 4 of the finals, Westbrook scored a playoff career high 43 points while shooting 20/32 from the field in a loss. His energy and ability to attack the basket along with passing skills makes him a dangerous player and he is constantly improving his jump shot.
