#1 J.R. Smith
While the arrival of J.R. Smith could help the Lakers until the end of the season, the veteran's contract will continue into the 19/20 season. The 33-year-old is owed $14,720,000 for the current season, and he has a further $3,870,000 guaranteed for next season. This means that the Lakers cannot simply use him for the remainder of the season, before discarding him in the summer, so the organization should be incredibly wary of making a move for the veteran.
It is also questionable as to how much Smith would add to the Lakers team. Smith would find it difficult to break into the Lakers starting five, and in his 11 games for Cleveland this season, the veteran managed just 6.7 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.6 rebounds. Adding J.R. Smith is simply not going to improve the Lakers Championship chances, and the Lakers should avoid a trade at all costs.
