Dez Bryant did not hold back when news broke that the Dallas Mavericks had traded Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers in early February. The former Dallas Cowboys star expressed disbelief on X (formerly Twitter) when the deal came out. Bryant, a Texas native, said he was “ready to move” after Mavericks GM Nico Harrison sent the fan favorite to Los Angeles for Anthony Davis.
In another interview on Sunday, the three-time Pro Bowler worth $16 million (per Celebrity Net Worth) said that he was “shocked” and “stunned” by the news.
“Whoever this Nico [Harrison] dude is, he needs to go lock himself up in his house. Straight up! Folks in Dallas don’t like you. Folks in Texas don’t like you. If you don’t know this, I’m telling you, Nic.”

ESPN's Tim McMahon reported a day after the Doncic trade came out that the Dallas Mavericks planned to reinforce security around Nico Harrison. Since Doncic was sent packing to Hollywood, fans in Mavs home games have urged the franchise to fire Harrison. Many on social media share the same sentiment.
Luka Doncic led the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals but lost to the Boston Celtics in six games. Doncic is a five-time All-NBA star and a perennial MVP candidate.
Dez Bryant said that he could not believe that “out of all people, y’all let Luka” walk. Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes was just as incredulous as Bryant that Nico Harrison traded the Slovenian.
Nico Harrison revealed why the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic
Most basketball fans, even non-Dallas Mavericks supporters, wanted to know why team GM Nico Harrison swapped Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. Harrison shared his reasoning in an interview with Tim MacMahon.
“I believe that defense wins championships. I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future,” he said.
In the Dallas Morning News, Harrison added a layer to the decision that pushed Mavericks fans to demand his resignation.
"We really feel like we got ahead of what was going to be a tumultuous summer, him being eligible for the supermax and also a year away from him being able to opt out of any contract,” he said.
Luka Doncic was expected to receive a five-year, $345 million offer from the Dallas Mavericks. Instead, Harrison led the U-Turn as the team did not want to commit that money to a player who allegedly had fitness issues.
The new LA Lakers guard reportedly did not want to be traded and was said to have been shocked by his former team’s decision. Harrison’s reasoning did not sit well among Mavericks fans, including Dez Bryant, who continues to criticize the trade.
