1v1 challenge to Suns announcer in response to Kevin Durant back-and-forth: "Why did you duck my challenge?"

After a back-and-forth with Kevin Durant, LA Clippers superfan Jacobtheclipper challenged current Phoenix Suns commentator Eddie Johnson on Thursday via X (formerly Twitter). It started after Durant had commented on potentially having a statue of him done by any organization he has played for.

The former NBA player didn't like what @Jacobtheclipper had to say when he criticized Durant. Johnson responded to the fan on X and called him a "waterboy."

"You talk as if u are really important waterboy Jacob," Johnson replied.

The superfan saw the response from Johnson and challenged him to a game of 1-on-1.

"Still waiting for you to come play me 1 on 1 old man, why did you duck my challenge if I’m a water boy?" Jacob said.

"Just because I can articulate my thoughts well doesn’t mean I think I am important. My takes do strike a cord with many current and former players since they are challenging in nature."

Johnson has been quiet since his exchange with Jacob.

How did the back-and-forth between the fan and Kevin Durant start?

The Clippers fan posted Kevin Durant's interview with Kay Adams at the "Up & Adams" show on Wednesday. The topic of having a statue dedicated to the Suns' star came following the unveiling of Dwyane Wade's statue outside of Kaseya Center on Sunday.

Durant doesn't think he will get his statue when it's all said and done. According to the two-time winner, an athlete must show their devotion to the city for the city to grant them a statue.

Following KD's interview with Adams, Jacob posted the interview on his account and talked about how he appreciates the star's awareness that he won't get a statue from any organization.

"I appreciate that he acknowledges he's a team jumper and that he doesn't truly DESERVE a statue. This is the outcome of choosing the easier path," Jacob posted on X.

However, the Suns' star saw that and called out the superfan. In a now-deleted reply, Durant told the fan online.

"Jacob, you will never know what it takes to be on this level, you tweet as if you're the gatekeeper of this here culture of basketball. You don't matter to not one one person in this business ... just to let u know," Durant responded.

Durant has bounced around the league throughout his career. The team he played for the longest is the OKC Thunder. The 6-foot-9 forward played for the franchise for nine seasons until he left to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016.

The All-Star played for the Warriors for three seasons and was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Although he stayed in Brooklyn for four years, he only played for three since he recovered from an Achilles injury in his first year. With the Suns, Durant is now in his third season with the organization.
