The spot many free agents should avoid in the 2021 NBA off-season could be the New York Knicks franchise. Coming off a solid year and the first appearance in the NBA Playoffs since 2013, the New York Knicks are definitely on a high with the young roster they have on their hands.

Veteran Derrick Rose will be an unrestricted free agent this year and the former NBA MVP award winner could be returning to play for the Knicks next year. However, the franchise itself should stay out of unrealistic expectations towards top free agents, unless they clearly want to join.

However, from a superstar's standpoint, going to the New York Knicks might be a far-fetched situation, as the unrealistic expectations created around the team if a superstar arrives and the inconsistency of the franchise in recent years might turn the situation into a mess.

Still, we can't really discard the Knicks' options for a top free agent this year, as a player like Kawhi Leonard can be as unpredictable as anyone in this situation.

The New York Knicks should solely focus on re-signing some of the free agents that the team must keep for next year, namely Reggie Bullock, Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks, along with veterans Rose and Taj Gibson.

If there's a chance to get a top free agent or trade for a reportedly unhappy Lillard from Portland, the Knicks should take it, obviously.

However, forcing the situation or getting lost in the push for a star while the current roster is depleted should not happen by any means.
