Basketball is among the many events that will take place in the 2024 Olympics. The games themselves are slated to take place in two cities as France plays host to the Summer Games this year.
Over the past decade, basketball has become a global sensation, resulting in a rise in competition in international play. In the past, the United States has typically been the most dominant squad. However, numerous teams will be vying for a medal in the Paris Olympics.
While the rest of the world has caught up, Team USA is still the favorite to take home gold. They have a roster loaded with NBA stars such as LeBron James, Steph Curry and Joel Embiid.

One of the United State's top competitors in basketball in the 2024 Olympics will be France. They are led by a pair of dominant seven-footers in Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama.

2024 Olympics basketball venues and cities
Basketball competition in the 2024 Olympics will start off with the group phase round. This will take place in Lille, France, a small town roughly two-and-a-half hours away from Paris.
As for the venue, the group phase matchups will be played at Pierre-Mauroy Stadium. The arena is a multi-purpose stadium that is also equipped with a retractable roof.
Pierre-Mauroy Stadium is a bit of a newer venue, first opening its doors in the summer of 2012. It is more than capable of housing a big crowd with its maximum capacity being slightly over 50,000.
After every team finishes their group phase games, a handful of countries will advance to the knockout round. This portion of basketball in the 2024 Olympics is set to take place in the host city of Paris.
In Paris, the final round of basketball will be played at Bercy Arena. This is a highly regarded venue, dubbed as the "Madison Square Garden of Paris." Similar to the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, it is an arena that hosts multiple kinds of sports and events.
The Bercy arena is a much older and smaller stadium. It's been open since 1984 and only holds 20,000 patrons. This means there are sure to be some jam-packed crowds once basketball reaches its medal games.
As for basketball's schedule in the Olympics, the action is slated to begin on July 27th and wrap up on August 4th.
