Tyrese Maxey has done quite well for himself in his NBA career. After his first ever All-Star season that culminated in the KIA Most Improved Player award, Maxey had the leverage to sign a five-year, $203.9 million contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers. This, of course, gave him more leeway in his spending choices.

After signing his contract extension, Maxey decided to purchase a Lamborghini Urus Truck worth $273,880. Why this purchase in particular? Because of the advice of a certain teammate.

In a "10 Essentials" video released by the GQ Sports YouTube channel, the 24-year-old guard explained how his Philly backcourt partner Paul George inspired him to buy a Lambo Truck:

"I talked to Paul George on a podcast after I signed my extension with the Sixers," Maxey said in the video. "I didn't know what to get myself yet...and he made a statement that, every time he signed a new contract, he got a new Ferrari."

George's anecdote reminded Maxey of his own ambition. The rest, as they say, was history.

"I always said, once I get an extension, I was getting a Lambo Truck. Soon as I heard that..." Maxey left his sentence unfinished as the camera zoomed in on the car keys he was flashing.

Tyrese Maxey and the 76ers appear to be stuck in second gear

While Maxey certainly has a sweet ride parked at his home, his team is far from achieving cruise control this season.

The Philadelphia 76ers currently stand at 8-16 in the Eastern Conference; only three teams, including the league-worst Washington Wizards, are below them in the win-loss column.

Aside from their subpar performance on the court, the Sixers are plagued by off-court issues as well. Perhaps the most infamous episode thus far is the story of Maxey supposedly calling out former MVP Joel Embiid for being late to practice sessions and team functions.

Allegedly, this interaction between Maxey and Embiid happened during a closed-door team meeting. Longtime NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has speculations regarding the nature of this leaked information:

"If something happens in front of everbody in the locker room, here's what happens," Wojnarowski told Carmelo Anthony on the "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast. "Player leaves the locker room, calls his agent like holy s*** you won't believe. Assistant coaches are in there, equipment guys are in there. It's a gossip league, they can't wait to tell everybody what crazy thing happened."

No matter how the information got out there, Maxey and the rest of the 76ers can only move forward and focus on turning around the season before it's too late.
