The San Antonio Spurs have one of the most exciting players in all of sports as Victor Wembanyama's ascent to the top has been as good as advertised.
The French center has many talents, not just basketball. He is also an avid chess enthusiast, and he even invited his X followers to meet up with him and play some chess while he was in New York City.
"Who wants to meet me at the SW corner of Washington Square park to play chess? Im there," Wembanyama tweeted on Friday.

It didn't take long before Levy Rozman, an international chess grandmaster and author, took things up a notch by inviting him to the world championships.
"Mr. Wemby, 15 minutes from you are the ongoing World Championships from 2-8pm, I'll get you a VIP badge, hit me up," Rozman tweeted.
Wembanyama has talked highly about chess, raving about how much it stimulates his brain and helps him become a better strategist.
“It’s something that makes the brain work a little bit,” Wembanyama said on Feb. 28, via San Antonio Express-News. “You have to adapt strategy and think about multiple actions and think two or three moves in the future.”
Wembanyama is entering the MVP conversation
Victor Wembanyama has been one of the best players in the league this month. The Spurs are 16-15 for the season and have entered the Play-In Tournament conversation.
The former No. 1 pick has also climbed the MVP ladder, according to NBA.com's Shaun Powell.
"Wemby owns a pair of 42-point games, the latest on Christmas, and a 10-block game in December," Powell wrote on Thursday. "There are still five more days remaining in December, but here are his averages this month: 29.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game. If he keeps that same energy in January, not only is the breakout season official, but his first serious run at All-NBA is all but locked up."
He argued that while winning the MVP race won't be easy, he is trending in the right direction.
"As for the MVP? There’s some stiff competition," Powell wrote. "For Wemby to become a finalist in his second season would be a tremendous accomplishment. And he’s trending toward grabbing multiple such awards in the future anyway."
The Spurs have been linked with a trade for De'Aaron Fox, and should they land the Sacramento Kings star point guard, it would only propel their playoff chances further.
It's going to be easier said than done, but with a unique two-way player like Wembanyama leading the way, anything seems possible.
