Despite losing a key piece from their dynasty this summer, the Golden State Warriors find themselves in the top five of the Western Conference, exceeding expectations, but one former champion feels their window has closed.
On Monday, three-time champion Danny Green, on FanDuel TV's Run It Back show, discussed about Steph Curry and the Warriors' play through the first six weeks of the year.
Green applauded the Warriors for how they've played and their brand of basketball but feels their days on contending for titles are behind them.
"Their window for contention is closed," Green said. "They're a good team, better than I expected to be to start out. They're starting to come down to Earth a little bit. To me, I just don't think the window of contention is there for them."

Over the summer, the Golden State Warriors brought in an array of depth pieces to remain competitive around Steph Curry. Among those was Buddy Hield, who has thrived since coming over in free agency.
When it comes to the deepest teams in the league, Golden State belongs in the conversation. However, their lack of star power behind Curry hurts them when it comes to contending in a loaded Western Conference.
NBA insider claims Golden State Warriors are still in the market for high-end talent
Over the past year, the Golden State Warriors have worked tirelessly to secure a new star running mate for Steph Curry. Even though nothing has surfaced yet, one insider claimed that the front office is still on the hunt.
While on NBA Today last week, Shams Charania detailed the latest regarding the Warriors. He mentioned that they are focused on bringing in a legitimate star.
"I'm told that the Warriors are on the real hunt for a star," Charania said. "A playmaker, scorer alongside Stephen Curry."
"The debate with the Warriors and teams that looking into that situation is that for them, are they going to find that externally, outside of this roster currently, or will it be in house with a player like Jonathan Kuminga."
The Golden State Warriors have had high hopes for Kuminga since drafting him seventh overall in 2021. He had some nice stretches over the past year, erupting for 33 points against the Houston Rockets. However, the flashes haven't been enough to show the franchise that he's capable of leading the charge alongside Curry consistently.
Armed with an array of contracts and young pieces, the Warriors have the assets to make a deal happen before the deadline. It's also worth noting that they've been aggressive since the summer, reportedly being in the mix for guys like Lauri Markkanen and Paul George.
If the Warriors want any chance of opening their window of contention again, they will need a massive upgrade to put alongside their star guard.
