LA Lakers fans were unimpressed with D'Angelo Russell's efficient performance on Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs, as it coincided with intensifying trade rumors involving the guard. Russell has had an inconsistent role this season and has been moved to the bench, with reports suggesting the Lakers are exploring trading him.
In 25 minutes off the bench, Russell scored 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-6 from 3-point range. He also tallied five assists and led the team in plus-minus with a +19 rating.
Despite the strong showing, fans voiced skepticism, with one labeling it a “red flag” after Forbes reporter Evan Sidery mentioned D'Angelo Russell's name in trade talks due to his expiring contract.

“S**t’s just a giant red flag in general like bro you always play good whenever a trade involving you is mentioned? S**t aint even a coincidence anymore,” the fan wrote.
“Every time he’s in trade rumors he play well💀💀💀💀,” another fan said.
“Like clockwork,” another added.
One fan shared a meme comparing D'Angelo Russell to Michael Jordan whenever his job is on the line, contrasting it with subpar performances when his position feels secure.
Fans also warned the Lakers’ front office against being swayed by Russell’s play.
“Pelinka and Jeanie gonna fall for his gimmicks,” one said.
“Rob gonna fall for it again too,” another added.
D'Angelo Russell reportedly included in ‘exploratory’ trade talks
On Wednesday, Forbes reporter Evan Sidery shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the Lakers are engaged in exploratory trade talks involving D'Angelo Russell and Jalen Hood-Schifino, both on expiring contracts.
“The Lakers are one of the most active teams in early trade discussions around the NBA. Los Angeles has dangled the expiring contracts of D’Angelo Russell and Jalen Hood-Schifino in exploratory talks,” he wrote.
“Keep an eye on Los Angeles between now and February’s deadline making moves.”
Russell is in the final year of a two-year, $36 million contract. This season, he is averaging a career-low 11.5 points per game. His 27.1 minutes per game is the second-lowest in his 10-year career.
The Lakers, seeking to strengthen their roster, have had a relatively quiet offseason. Their most notable additions were rookies Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, as well as first-year head coach JJ Redick leading the revamped staff.
