Fans were surprised to learn that the NBA has given Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid a postgame technical foul on Monday. Embiid received it for waving a towel toward Indiana Pacers' Andrew Nembhard during their 118-114 overtime win on Sunday. It happened during overtime while the Pacers guard shot his free throws.

ESPN's Shams Charania was the first to report the league's punishment. Embiid was on the bench when he waved at Nembhard. The league's L2M Report said that the All-Star player's action constituted an improper non-call.

Embiid's strategy of distracting Nembhard worked as the Pacers guard missed a free throw.

Fans didn't like the postgame technical foul that the league issued and shared their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter).

"Adam Silver stinks exhibit 10 million," a fan said.
"Bro has more techs than minutes this season," another fan said, citing that Embiid hasn't played a game this season.
"A tech for waving a towel is crazy 😂," a fan said.

Other fans called out the NBA for being "soft."

"This league is f**king embarrassing," a fan said on X.
"This league is so soft man towel waving does nothing lmao," another fan said.
"NBA won't be happy until all competitive spirit is gone and every game is like the all star game, jeez," a fan said.

What's the update on Joel Embiid's health?

The Sixers still haven't made Joel Embiid available in their lineup. The star player has shown signs of progress in his health. He has participated in light pre-game workouts. ESPN's Tim Bontemps reported that Embiid has shown progress lately.

"On Wednesday, Embiid's time on the court inside Wells Fargo Center was limited to him dribbling during the timeout between the first and second quarters," Bontemps said. "He did, however, work out in front of reporters on both Monday and Tuesday, and multiple sources continue to say Embiid looks good physically in workouts as he works his way back to game action."

However, the Sixers haven't shared an update on when fans will see Embiid on the court. He is yet to make his season debut and is under investigation by the league for his absences concerning his health.

Last season, the 2023 NBA MVP only played 39 games. Although he was limited, he didn't disappoint. Embiid averaged 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
