NBA fans predict Lakers' move for Scoot Henderson (Imagn)

Following his rookie season, Scoot Henderson has made some changes off the basketball. With news of his changing representation, fans are already predicting a move to a new team.

On Monday morning, news broke that Henderson has signed with Klutch Sports. This agency, led by Rich Paul, represents LeBron James and numerous other stars in the NBA.

Scoot Henderson's choosing to sign with Klutch sparked an array of reactions from fans on social media. With Rich Paul as his agent now, some are already tossing out the idea that he's going to wind up on the LA Lakers.

Lakers predictions accounted for a majority of reactions, with some saying he'll be playing alongside Bronny James in the future.

"Future Bronny teammate," one fan said.
"Scoot is a Laker confirmed," another fan said.
"The Lakers gonna go for him," said one fan.

Henderson, 20, was drafted No. 3 overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2023 draft. He had an up-and-down first year in the league for the young rebuilding squad. Henderson finished his rookie year with averages of 14.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists. Despite turning things around in the back half of the season, he did not find himself on an All-Rookie team.

Scoot Henderson's new agent has history of getting smaller guards big contracts

Standing at 6-foot-3, Scoot Henderson is considered a smaller guard in the NBA. Despite many seeing this as a disadvantage, his new representation has gotten players of similar stature big contracts.

Heading into year two, Henderson is still years away from getting an extension. That said, if he can properly develop, Rich Paul is an agent who can make sure his second contract is a sizable one.

With this change, Scoot Henderson now joins the long list of guards represented by Paul and Klutch. Some other notable names include De'Aaron Fox, Darius Garland, Tyrese Maxey, Fred VanVleet and Collin Sexton.

All of these players have reached All-Star or near All-Star-level status in the NBA. This has put Paul in a position to negotiate hefty contracts for all of them. Here is a look at the deals these guards are on right now.

  • Fox: five years, $163 million
  • Garland: five years, $197.2 million
  • Maxey: five years, $203.8 million
  • VanVleet: three years, $128.5 million
  • Sexton: four years, $70.9 million

Just because Paul has a history of getting players big contracts does not mean it's a guarantee for Henderson. He still has to do his part in emerging into a player that was worthy of being taken third overall. If Henderson can accomplish this in the coming years, his new agent is sure to make sure he's taken care of financially.
