Derrick White admits to being in the wrong situation in Colorado football game (Imagn)

Derrick White was in a physical altercation while attending a college football game two weeks ago. As the veteran guard gears up for the upcoming NBA season, he recently gave his thoughts on the ordeal.

White had a verbal exchange with an opposing fan while in the crowd. Things escalated, with the person swinging at him and hitting him in the face. White and the fan were quickly separated before the situation worsened.

Derrick White was asked about the altercation on Tuesday at the Boston Celtics' media day. He admitted that he shouldn't have been in that situation and wished to move past it.

White has solidified himself as one of the top two-way guards in the NBA since being traded to the Celtics in 2022. He is coming off his best season as a pro while helping deliver the iconic franchise a championship. White was named to an All-Defense team and averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists while shooting 39.6% from deep.

The Celtics rewarded White for his contributions following his strong campaign in 2024. He inked a four-year, $118 million extension with Boston during free agency.

Derrick White opens up on landing long-term extension with Boston Celtics

Once a late first-round pick with the San Antonio Spurs, Derrick White has had to worked hard to carve out a role for himself in the NBA. All the extra time spent perfecting his craft was worth it when he landed a sizable extension this offseason.

When asked on media day about the Celtics investing so much money to keep him around long-term, White said:

"I love being here. Me and my family are super excited to be here for awhile."

White has financial security and is also in a great position to add to his list of career accolades. Fresh off winning his first championship, the Celtics are primed to repeat in 2025.

White was part of the NBA's top starting unit last season. The Celtics ensured they retained all their key players and will bring that same group back next season. The only difference is Boston is expected to be without Kristaps Porzingis to open the 2024-25 campaign.

With stars like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown just entering their primes, the Celtics are in a position to contend for years to come. If White can continue to be a strong complementary piece to this duo, they'll be a mainstay in the title conversation.
