After recruiting former NBA champs, Dwight Howard eyes newly fired Monty Williams in coaching role for Taiwan League

The Detroit Pistons fired head coach Monty Williams only after a year of hiring him. Following his firing, former NBA champion Dwight Howard came with an offer for Williams. After recruiting former NBA champion Quinn Cook to play with him in Taiwan, Howard asked Williams to come coach in the Taiwan League. Howard also asked Williams to bring some players with him.

“Monty come coach in my league ! Just bring some players with you!” wrote Howard on X.

The Pistons fired their head coach on Wednesday after the Pistons went for a 14-68 record, the worst in the league. Williams has been highly successful in the NBA as a head coach except for his stint with the Detroit Pistons.

What was even worse was the fact that Williams was the Pistons coach who had the richest-ever contract by a head coach.

As for Howard, he is yet to earn a spot in the NBA as he continues to search for a place in the league. He is currently playing for the Taiwan Mustangs in the Taiwan League. He has already recruited two-time NBA champion Quinn Cook and big man DeMarcus Cousins.

Pistons owner Tom Gores releases statement regarding firing of coach Monty Williams

Firing one of the highest-paid head coach right after one season is never an easy option. However, the Detroit Pistons had to make the call as they plan to rebuild not only the team but also the front office to bring back the team to its glory.

After the team decided to fire their head coach, team owner Tom Gores stated that in light of the new challenge, the Pistons plan to revisit their future plan.

“Decisions like these are difficult to make, and I want to thank Monty for his hard work and dedication,” Pistons owner Tom Gores said in a statement.

“Coaching has many dynamic challenges that emerge during a season and Monty always handled those with grace. However, after reviewing our performance carefully and assessing our current position as an organization, we will chart a new course moving forward.” [via SI.com].

Monty Williams signed a six-year, $78 million contract with the team.

The Pistons have already rebuilt their front office. They hired Trajan Langdon as the president of the basketball operation. They also fired their general manager Troy Weaver. Monty Williams was the latest name in the process.

The Pistons have a young core and that didn't play in their favor last season. It would be interesting to see if they make some roster changes for the upcoming season.
