Miami Heat President Pat Riley has come under fire as of late regarding the team's relationship with Jimmy Butler. After Riley said late last year that the Heat wouldn't be trading Butler, the team decided to suspend him for seven games for comments the veteran forward made to media members this week. In addition, Pat Riley and the Heat are now open to hearing trade offers for Butler.
The way Hall of Famer Paul Pierce sees things, the situation is going to have a lasting impact on how players view the Heat.
After leading the team to two NBA Finals appearances in the span of five years, Pat Riley's criticism of Butler after Miami's postseason exit last year combined with the team's unwillingness to extend Butler isn't a good look for the franchise according to Pierce:
"The players see what’s going on with all Miami superstars , so why would another superstar player go to Miami if this how they all get treated with no respect, after what they have done for the franchise."

Other fans, of course, have taken the opposite stance, and suggested that after Butler's fallout in Minnesota, and his ongoing spat with Miami, other teams may be hesitant to acquire him.
The criticism from Pierce comes on the heels of the Hall of Famer ripping into Riley on Fox Sports 1 for destroying Miami's legendary Heat Culture:
"Pat Riley brought Heat culture, and what I wanna say about that is that he's slowly destroying Heat culture. ... Look what he's done to his star players since Heat culture started."
Looking at the latest regarding the Jimmy Butler trade rumors after Pat Riley and Miami Heat dole out seven-game suspension
Over the past few weeks leading up to Pat Riley and the Miami Heat handing Jimmy Butler a seven-game suspension for comments made publicly, a number of trade scenarios have been proposed by the NBA community.
While Butler had reportedly indicated that he would prefer to land in Golden State, Houston or Dallas, now it sounds like he simply wants out of Miami, regardless of where that takes him.
In the case of Golden State, reports have suggested that Miami wants Jonathan Kuminga in return. Considering the Warriors have been hesitant to include Kuminga in trade talks in the past, whether or not the franchise changes its stance remains to be seen.
At the same time, there has been tons of talk about Butler teaming up with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker in Phoenix. However, any deal would likely need to include Bradley Beal, who has a no-trade clause and would have to green-light any potential deal. Given that, Phoenix seems like an unlikely destination.
As Sports Illustrated suggested this week, the Denver Nuggets could be a team to watch between now and the trade deadline. With Jamal Murray underperforming, and averaging his lowest scoring numbers since the 2019-20 season, the team could look to trade him for Jimmy Butler.
Alternatively, there has been talk about the team trading Michael Porter Jr. before the deadline. Although Porter Jr. has been reportedly assured by the front office that they aren't looking to trade him, as we saw with Pat Riley and Jimmy Butler, things change.
While it's unclear where Butler will land, it seems like it's a question of when a trade is finalized rather than a question of if a deal gets finalized.
