Anna Horford, sister of Boston Celtics center Al Horford, shared her disappointment over the idea that more talented players than Bronny James, son of LeBron James, could not get drafted into the NBA or are stuck in the G-League.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Anna acknowledged that the prospect of Bronny playing with LeBron James is exciting but voiced her sadness over the thought of other deserving players missing out on NBA opportunities.

Her comment accompanied a repost of a report noting that Bronny left the court with the net from the basket where he scored his first NBA points on Wednesday.

“Bronny James playing with his dad is cool & all, but my heart breaks for the players who didn’t get drafted or who are stuck in the G-League knowing they’re legitimately stronger players than him,” Anna said.

The Lakers’ game in Cleveland on Wednesday marked a homecoming for LeBron James and Bronny, both Ohio natives.

In the final minutes, Bronny played for the second time as a pro and made a 14-foot jumper with 2:03 left to score his first NBA points.

Bronny James was selected 55th in the 2024 NBA draft. In his senior high school season, he averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game, but during his one season at USC, he suffered a cardiac arrest and posted averages of 4.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 2.1 apg.

Fans react to Anna Horford’s comments on nepotism around LeBron James and Bronny

Fans responded to Anna Horford’s remarks regarding nepotism after the Lakers drafted Bronny James despite other more skilled players being available.

“Do they do this for any other player who scored their first NBA basket? Or is it just for LeBron’s son? Not even trying to hate either I’m really curious lmao,” one said.
“It’s also doing a disservice to him. He needs reps to grow his game,” another added.

Bronny James is expected to spend time in the G-League this season for his development.

“I feel bad because it feels like Bronny is being used like an accessory for his pops. I look at guys like Jaedon LeDee, an All American and last season's best power forward in the country. It hurts my heart he's not on a team or getting an opportunity,” one said.
“I agree, it’s really cool tho! I’m a diehard Celtics fan but it’s cool to see, I just think he should be in g-league now. Seems kinda forced right now. Not in a bad way haha just we get it lmao,” another added.
“he's going to the g-league in like a week, calm down,” another said.

In his introductory press conference, Bronny stated his desire to build his own reputation and not just be known as LeBron James' son. Bronny acknowledged that being LeBron’s son comes with intense pressure but said he has managed it his entire life.
