Anthony Edwards and Kevin Durant led Team USA’s bench onslaught in blowing out South Sudan 103-86 on Wednesday. The two combined for 27 points, five assists and three rebounds to give the “Bright Stars” no breathing room even when the starters were out. Edwards and Durant will continue playing a key role for the Americans in their quest for another gold medal.

The win against the East Africans secured Edwards and Co. a seat in the quarter-finals. They still have a game against Puerto Rico on Saturday and they’re not taking “Los Gallos” lightly. The Americans are working diligently for their next group phase battle.

During Team USA’s practice, Anthony Edwards executed an off-the-bounce rim-rattling dunk with Kevin Durant looking on. The two NBA superstars exchanged a smooth handshake following the highlight-reel slam.

Fans reacted to that moment between “Ant-Man” and the “Slim Reaper:”

“KD and Anthony Edwards did the handshake, Ant’s life is complete now,” one fan said.

One fan focused more on what happened before the exchange between Durant and Edwards:

“We not addressing that nasty dunk at all?”

Another fan commented:

“Ant and KD always together that’s real fr”

@Stunna999_ couldn’t resist dragging Devin Booker into the scene:

“It’s either book don’t fw handshakes or they have a different one they just don’t do lol”

Anthony Edwards has hesitated or shied away from calling Kevin Durant “the GOAT” on several occasions. Even when the Minnesota Timberwolves battled the Phoenix Suns in last year’s playoffs, “Ant-Man” kept his praise toward his idol. He also said that playing with "KD" in the Olympics has been one of the biggest thrills of his life.

The handshake looked smooth and executed to perfection. The two must have a lot of practice doing it as both seem to be working out together often. The fans of both players are swooning over the chemistry between the legend and the player who might be the future face of the NBA.

Anthony Edwards and Kevin Durant might continue to anchor Team USA’s bench

Team USA coach Steve Kerr is rotating his starting lineup outside of LeBron James and Steph Curry. Joel Embiid, who started at center during the Americans’ exhibition games and against Serbia, did not play versus South Sudan. Against Puerto Rico on Saturday, Embiid could be back in the starting five.

While there has been much ado about who will line up for tip-off, the bench hasn’t been in the spotlight. In wins against the Serbs and the East Africans, the non-starters, led by Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards, have been impressive.

"KD" was unstoppable in the win against Serbia while Edwards did most of his damage against South Sudan. Kerr could shuffle his starting five but may continue to anchor his “backups” on Durant and his protege.

Opposing teams who will have trouble playing against the LeBron James-led starters will have no respite once the second unit comes in. Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards will make sure of that.
