Over the weekend, the biggest story in the NBA was Anthony Davis making his home debut for the Dallas Mavericks. Things started off strong, but took an unwanted turn when the 10-time All-Star had to leave due to injury.
Davis logged 31 minutes of action against the Houston Rockets but found himself with an early exit. The Mavs' new addition suffered a non-contact injury while rotating on defense. Early reports stated that Davis would be out indefinitely, but new developments provide some hope moving forward.
According to Mavericks insider Tim MacMahon, Anthony Davis' injury is not going to require surgery. He'll still be sidelined for an extended period, but rest and proper rehab should result in a full recovery.

Before getting injured, Davis was showing the Dallas fanbase the high-level player the Mavs landed in the Luka Doncic trade. He recorded 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks.
Losing Davis for significant time is a tough blow for the Mavericks given the circumstances. Kyrie Irving will now be tasked with leading the charge for the shorthanded roster as they battle for playoff positioning.
Mavericks insider hints at Anthony Davis possibly coming back from injury early
Before being moved in one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, Anthony Davis was dealing with an abdominal injury he suffered as a member of the LA Lakers. According to one insider, his handling of this might have played a factor in how things transpired in his Dallas debut.
After the trade was official, Davis did miss some time for the Mavs. He missed three straight games for Dallas on top of sitting out the last two games of his Lakers tenure. Upon returning home from a road trip, AD decided to give it a go in front of the Mavericks fan base for his debut.
While appearing on NBA Today Tuesday, Tim MacMahon spoke a little about Anthony Davis getting injured against the Rockets. He stated the star big man might have returned from injury early to help soften the blow of the big trade.
"As far as Anthony Davis, he was so determined to make such a strong first impression," MacMahon said. "He did that during that first half, he was dominant. But he came back from that ab injury perhaps a little bit early."
Emotions have been running high in and around the Mavericks since the Doncic trade, and Davis wanted to do his part. He accomplished making a good first impression, but in the end, it might now have been worth it. Depending on how long he's sidelined for, it could drastically impact Dallas' playoff hopes.
With AD now out recovering from this injury, the Mavericks are likely going to face more backlash following their franchise-altering decision.
