The Golden State Warriors are reportedly interested in trading for Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen. After failing to get Paul George from the LA Clippers, the Dubs turned their attention to the Finnish. The Jazz and the Warriors, though, have reached a stalemate in their trade talks, per NBA insider Marc Stein.

With Markkanen talks put on hold, the Warriors are reportedly looking at former Memphis Grizzlies forward Killian Tillie to add to the roster. A back injury in March 2022 forced Tillie on the sidelines. In October of that year, the Grizzlies waived him.

Golden State may have seen something in Killian Tillie’s return to basketball in the Las Vegas Summer League. As part of the Boston Celtics’ team that competed in the tournament, Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr.'s interest may have been piqued by Tillie’s performances.

Basketball fans promptly react to the Dubs' reported interest in Tillie:

“Anyone know if he’s good?”

One fan got on the same train of thought:

“Who tf is that”

Another fan couldn’t resist trolling the Dubs:

“They went from PG to Lauri Markinnen to “Killian Tillie”

Even a Warrior fan wasn’t amused by what was going on:

“We are so cooked”

Killian Tillie had a solid four-year collegiate career with Gonzaga but went undrafted in 2020. He has been on and off the Memphis Grizzlies roster since he joined them that year. Tillie hadn’t played for over 800 days before he suited up for the Boston Celtics in the 2024 Summer League.

In five games with the Celtics, Tillie averaged 9.9 points on 48.5% shooting, including 41.2% from deep. He showed flashes of versatility and superb shooting from deep always interests the Golden State. It remains to be seen if GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. will pursue him in the offseason.

The Golden State Warriors may be done going after Lauri Markkanen

Peripheral upgrades may be the Golden State Warriors’ focus after the Lauri Markkanen standoff with the Utah Jazz. The Dubs are reportedly unwilling to include Jonathan Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski in trade walks, a stance that forced the stalemate. With trade talks going nowhere, Dunleavy is likely tinkering with depth pieces.

Killian Tillie earned the GM’s interest because he can shoot and is 6-foot-9 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan. Golden State needs size, an issue they’ve been dealing with for years. Dunleavy could be looking at other options with the same upside Tillie brings.

Dubs fans who want the team to continue going after Lauri Markkanen aren’t likely going to be happy as training camp nears. Instead of the former All-Star’s name, Mike Dunleavy Jr. could go after the likes of Doug McDermott, Cedi Osman and Tillie.
