Fans of NBA 2k have continued to plead with the gaming studio to focus on improving gameplay rather than adding in new features, such as jersey swaps, which will be in NBA 2k25. When looking at the list of the best NBA 2k games of all time, many fans seem to be of the mindset that games like 2k11 and 2k14 are among two of the best games in the franchise's history.
Since then, however, many fans are of the mindset that gameplay hasn't improved, and even in some cases has regressed. At the same time, 2k has continued to add in new features such as the city, and side-quests that allow players to get involved in the fashion industry or the music industry.
This year, before releasing any gameplay footage for 2k25, the studio put the game up for preorder, drawing criticism from fans, who called the studio out for the decision. The studio responded by dropping gameplay footage, while revealing that they added more than 9,000 new animations to 2k25.
In addition, the studio announced a number of other gameplay changes, however, this week they announced that jersey swaps would be a part of the upcoming iteration of the game.

Looking at the new features added to NBA 2k25 this year
In addition to jersey swaps, NBA 2k25 has added in 9,000 new animations. While fans have theorized that some of these animations could be animations in the park such as walking animations and emotes, the game will also feature several all-new gameplay mechanics.
One of the new gameplay mechanics is the all-new dribble engine, which allows gamers to dribble like their favorite players thanks to "dynamically-generated motions" and "authentic signature movements".
In addition, the game will also feature new signature go-to shots, and unique shot-timing profiles that are specific to each player and jumpshot animation. On the defensive end of the floor, the game will have an all-new defensive movement system with "skill-based defensive cutoffs" and more refined movements.
Defense will also feature an updated shot contest system to make closeouts more realistic, with the hope among fans being that some of the 9,000 new animations will be block animations for a more realistic defensive experience.
NBA 2k25 is set to release on Sep. 6, with fans who preorder able to play two days early on Sep. 4.
Four different versions of the game are available for pre-order and purchase with a standard edition featuring Jayson Tatum, a WNBA version featuring A'ja Wilson, an All-Star edition with both athletes, and a Hall of Fame edition with Vince Carter.
Both the All-Star edition of the game and the Hall of Fame edition of the game come with a number of in-game accessories and bonuses.
