Anthony Edwards delivered an electrifying performance on Monday, scoring 41 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Washington Wizards 120-106. Despite his standout game, he was quick to praise the Wizards' young talent and expressed surprise about a detail regarding rookie center Alex Sarr.
Sarr posted 13 points, five assists and three rebounds in the game, shooting 4-for-10 including 3-for-5 from 3-point range. He also contributed two blocks in nearly 28 minutes of play.
After the game, Anthony Edwards praised the Wizards' young core, sharing his amazement upon learning that Sarr, a rookie from France, is only 19 years old.

“They're good man, I didn't know the Sarr kid was 19, I mean, I'm only 23. I'm making this sound like I'm old, but yeah, I didn't know he was only 19, yeah, it's crazy.
“They got a great young core … they got a couple of vets: Kuz, Valanciunas — I didn't know they had Malcolm Brogdon on the bench. So, they got vets over there, so it's a good mesh.
Sarr is one of just 35 players in the league who are at least 7 feet tall.
Other members of the Wizards' young core also showed promise, with Bub Carrington contributing eight points and five rebounds and Kyshawn George adding 10 points and three assists. Sophomore Bilal Coulibaly had 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting.
Although the Wizards possess a promising blend of young talent and experienced veterans, it hasn't led to victories. Following their defeat to Anthony Edwards' Timberwolves on Monday, they fell to a 6-32 record, marking their seventh consecutive loss, the worst record and longest active losing streak of the season.
International player is Anthony Edwards’ MVP pick
The NBA hasn't had an American MVP since James Harden in 2018. Since then, Greece’s Giannis Antetokounmpo has won the award twice, Serbia’s Nikola Jokic three times and Joel Embiid once.
If Anthony Edwards' prediction proves accurate, the trend of international players dominating the MVP race will continue. Edwards selected Canadian guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the OKC Thunder as his pick for this year’s MVP.
Edwards declared SGA the MVP after the Thunder star scored 40 points in a 113-105 victory over the Timberwolves on New Year’s Eve.
"The MVP of the NBA," Edwards declared to ESPN while talking about SGA. "To me, he's unguardable … As far as any one-on-one matchup, yeah, you can go on and give it up. Just give him two points most of the time.”
“So I think you got to trap him. Maybe that don't work, but you got to try it. For sure you got to send a second body, especially if he got a favorable matchup. Anytime he got somebody that he knows can't guard him, he's going to score every time."
SGA is currently tied with Giannis Antetokounmpo for the league lead in scoring, averaging 31.4 points per game. He is the best player on the Thunder, who boast the best record in the Western Conference and lead the league in net and defensive ratings.
