Basketball fans were disappointed with Victor Wembanyama's last-second shot selection during France's agonizing 83-82 loss to Australia on Sunday. France's 1-point loss against the Boomers was the team's fourth consecutive defeat of the ongoing exhibition games ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

France had a shot at heading into the Olympics with a confidence-boosting victory. With one second left on the clock, the ball was inbounded to Wembanyama, who popped out to the 3-point line. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year caught and shot the ball in one motion, but his attempt was way off the mark.

Hoops fans slammed Wembanyama for attempting a 3-pointer with France needing just two points to win the game.

"Atrocious shot selection from wemby per usual," commented a fan.
"7’4 shooting a 3 down 1 is crazy," wrote another X user.

One fan criticized France's decision to settle for a 3-point shot despite having Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert in their ranks.

"Imagine having the two tallest players on the court, being down 1 with 1 second left and the ball, and settling for a contested 3. How df does that happen."
"Nike was too early to be forcing he is a winner campaign. And he lost Dellavedova," another fan wrote while slamming the San Antonio Spurs center.

A couple of X users hit out at France coach Vincent Collet for drawing up the play.

"Whoever called this play down one needs to be fired," a fan wrote.
"France coach still doesn’t understand that he needs to play the 5," another fan opined.

Victor Wembanyama misses triple-double vs Australia

Except for missing the game-winning shot, Victor Wembanyama put on a solid performance for France. The Spurs center notched up a double-double and fell short of a triple-double by just two assists.

Overall, Wembanyama scored 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and led the team in scoring. The 20-year-old didn't have a good game shooting the 3-ball. He shot 3-of-10 from the 3-point range. The seven-foot-four center grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out eight assists.

Victor Wembanyama's performance was overshadowed by an excellent game from Australia's Josh Giddey and Patty Mills. Chicago Bulls' Giddey scored 20 points, dished out eight assists and grabbed six rebounds. He also had two steals and two blocks, while he shot 7-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-8 from the 3-point range.

Patty Mills exploded with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Mills also recorded three assists and two rebounds.
