Austin Reaves had himself a night on Friday as he went off for a career-high 38 points. The Lakers needed every point as they hung on to defeat the Brooklyn Nets 102-101 behind Reaves' monster effort. Reaves shot 13-for-23 from the field, including 4-for-8 from 3-point range, to cap off the win.

Reaves' sister-in-law, Kaci Mack Reaves, who is married to Austin's brother Spencer, was also closely following the Lakers vs. Nets game. She took to Instagram (@thereavesgirl) to share her reaction to Austin's career night:

"Just Austin being Austin," Reaves wrote on her story as she reshared the Lakers' post.

For Kaci Mack Reaves, performances like this are typical for Austin Reaves. Lakers fans are growing accustomed to this version of Reaves, as he's been having a career year. Through the first 39 games of the season, Reaves is averaging career-highs in points (18.5), assists (6.1) and steals (1.1).

Many Lakers fans have been hoping for someone to rise up and become the third star alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis since their 2020 NBA Championship. Reaves is looking more poised than ever to step into that role with the strides he's made this season.

Lakers hold on to win against Nets behind Austin Reaves 38 points, sit at 6th seed in the Western Conference

The Lakers found themselves in quite a battle on Friday night against the Brooklyn Nets, as the game came down to the final seconds. D'Angelo Russell, who was traded from the Lakers earlier this season, had the chance to win the game against his former team. Russell ultimately missed the 3-point attempt and the Lakers held on to win 102-101. Austin Reaves had a game-high and career-high 38 points in the win.

After 39 games, the Lakers have a 22-17 record and are the 6th seed in the Western Conference. They are currently half a game up on the defending Western Conference champions, the Dallas Mavericks.

The Lakers will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 19, when they travel to Inglewood to take on the Los Angeles Clippers for the first-ever battle of LA at the new Intuit Dome. With the stakes already high, the Lakers are just half a game behind the Clippers for the 5th seed in the West, and a win will secure that spot for them. We'll see if Austin Reaves has another career performance lined up for that one.
