Anthony Davis did most of his damage in the first quarter when he tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds. He outscored the Charlotte Hornets team which had 19 points and seven rebounds in the first quarter. The hot start pushed the Lakers to a 39-19 lead, a much-needed cushion as the injury-plagued hosts refused to quit. Charlotte bounced back in the second quarter to trail 59-51 at halftime.

The Hornets kept the game close after giving up a big first-quarter lead. Charlotte’s balanced scoring allowed them to keep in step with the LA Lakers until the final buzzer. Davis had six points and five rebounds to help hold off the Hornets. The star big man’s two free throws sealed the game for the visitors.

Anthony Davis records his first 40-20 game this season and fifth in his career

The 42-point and 23-rebound night from Anthony Davis was his first "at least 40 points and 20 rebounds" statistic this season. He scored 40 points twice before but could not snare down enough rebounds to hit the mark.

Against the San Antonio Spurs on Nov. 15, AD tallied 40 points and 12 rebounds. A month later, he dominated the Memphis Grizzlies with 40 points and 16 rebounds. He finally accomplished the feat on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets.

Anthony Davis now has five games with at least 40 points and 20 rebounds, per StatMuse. He did it twice for the Lakers and thrice for the New Orleans Pelicans. The last time he reached both benchmarks was on October 29, 2019, when he had 40 points and 20 rebounds against the Memphis Grizzlies in just 31 minutes.
