The Lakers had the 17th draft pick last night and decided to go with the 6-foot-6 guard from Tennessee, Dalton Knecht. He was an intriguing selection for the Purple and Gold franchise, given his shotmaking efficiency and impressive height at the point guard spot. Hilariously, several NBA fans are already thinking of possible duo nicknames for him and Austin Reaves.

Reaves has blossomed into one of the more integral pieces of the Lakers roster. After going undrafted in the 2021 draft to secure a two-way contract with LA, he has continued to develop into one of the more reliable shotmakers on the team. With the addition of Knecht on the roster, the upside is that he can follow the same path as Reaves.

X user LakeShowYo (@LakeShowYo) posted the nickname question for the duo, leading to several hilarious suggestions from Lakers fans.

Lakers' executive spoke highly of Dalton Knecht's potential in the professional league

After selecting Dalton Knecht in last night's draft, Lakers executive Rob Pelinka shared what drew management into the decision to go with him in the first round. as per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

"In my mind, there is no way a player like this will be available for us to pick on draft night," Pelinka said. "Across the board, just couldn't be happier. If we would have had the 10th pick in the draft, we would have taken him. So, to get that value at 17 is really extraordinary."

The purple and gold franchise is no stranger to drafting guards in the first round, just look at the likes of Magic Johnson and D'Angelo Russell. Knecht's role on the team this upcoming season will be an interesting position for the coaching staff. He has proven to have shotmaking ability and excellent point guard height, according to today's standards.

However, rotations will obviously play a key role as he will not be the only point guard in contention for playing minutes. Be that as it may, all that remains is for him to play confidently once given the opportunity and to seamlessly transition his game from the collegiate level to the big league.
