The defending champions Boston Celtics signed free agent guard Lonnie Walker IV to a one-year deal. Walker played for the Brooklyn Nets last season, averaging 11.7 points in 56 games. He adds more depth to an already deep Celtics squad, but his scoring is a difference-maker.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Celtics signed Walker to an Exhibit 10 deal. It means the defending champs can give the 25-year-old guard a bonus if they waive him and assign him to their NBA G League affiliate team.
Lonnie Walker IV will battle a handful of players at training camp but has a good shot of making the roster. The Celtics brought back the majority of their role players off the bench although the former first-round pick could be an upgrade.

Here's what the Boston Celtics depth chart looks like heading into training camp after Walker's signing:
The Boston Celtics have 20 players on their roster heading into training camp. They will need to trim it to 18 players before the start of the season. 15 players will be on guaranteed contracts and three will be on two-way deals.
As of this writing, the three players who signed two-way contracts are JD Davison, Drew Peterson and Anton Watson. It will be interesting to see which players make the roster since the Celtics seemingly don't have any weaknesses.
Kristaps Porzingis will start the season on the injured list after undergoing foot surgery in June. Porzingis is expected to be out for at least five to six months, so he'll likely return to the lineup in November or December.
What moves did the Boston Celtics make in the offseason?
The Boston Celtics had seven players heading into free agency following their successful championship season. The Celtics immediately brought back Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman on the second day of free agency. They then signed Drew Peterson to a two-way contract.
Boston also signed their rookie Baylor Scheierman to a multi-year deal. They then extended Jayson Tatum and Derrick White to monster contracts, ensuring the team's core stays intact for a few more years. Neemias Queta, JD Davison and Sam Hauser were brought back, while Oshae Brissett and Svi Mykhailiuk were not signed.
Ron Harper Jr., Lonnie Walker IV and Tristan Enaruna were all signed to Exhibit 10 deals heading into training camp. The Celtics will start their media day on Sept. 24 and begin practice the day after. They then head to Abu Dhabi for preseason games against the Denver Nuggets.
