Brazil and Japan squared off in their 2024 Paris Olympics Men's Basketball's final Group B game on Friday. With a knockout spot at stake, both teams played with great intensity to begin the contest. However, the Brazilians came out on top to start the first quarter.
Behind forward Bruno Caboclo's 15-point burst in the opening 10 minutes, Brazil took a 31-20 lead. They went 5 of 6 on 3-pointers and 57% from the floor. Meanwhile, the Rui Hachimura-less Japan were at Yuki Kawamura's mercy as the guard dropped nine first-quarter points, ensuring the Asian team didn't fall behind by a double-digit margin.
Japan got right back into it momentarily with a solid start in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 39-36 with nearly five minutes left. However, Brazil stormed back to restore an 11-point advantage.
Brazil relied on its fiery shooting, adding six more triples to their tally to take a 55-44 halftime lead. Vitor Benite complimented Caboclo's scoring with 13 points on 4 of 4 shots. Yuta Watanabe was Japan's best with 10 points on 4 of 8 shots, while Yuki Kawamura added 11 points on 4 of 10 shots.

The third quarter started with a flurry of baskets from Brazil before Japan revived itself. With totaling 22 second chance points toward the end of the third, Japan trimmed Brazil's lead to 77-73 behind an excellent 3-point shooting display.
Yuki Kawamura was the key to Japan winning the frame 29-22. He hit three triples, adding nine points to his tally. Meanwhile, center Jordan Hawkinson had 16 points in the quarter.
The fourth quarter was a back and forth contest until Brazil pulled away with just over five minutes left. It stretched an 85-80 lead to 98-84 advantage with 1:28 left. Bruno Caboclo was the hero for Brazil after he dropped 35 points in the game on 14 of 20 shots. Meanwhile, Vitor Benite had 19 points on 75.0% shooting.
Japan got a 26-point effort from Josh Hawkins, while Yuki Kawamura added 21 points and 10 assists.
The eventual score was 102-84 in Brazil's favor. Japan's Olympic basketball journey ended with an 0-3 run, while Brazil kept its hopes alive of a knokcout spot.
