Four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert was the first player to be posterized in the 2024 Paris Olympics. In his and France's opening game of the Group Phase against Brazil, Gobert was posterized in the first quarter during an alley-oop play that sent the Timberwolves star to the floor. The play came amid a hot start for Brazil, which saw Gobert and France go down early.

Gobert had a slow start to the game, finishing the first half with just two points and two rebounds while San Antonio star Victor Wembanyama erupted for 14 points and five rebounds in the first half.

Despite the poster, Gobert and France were able to rally in the second quarter, outscoring Brazil en route to a three-point lead at the half. Despite that, fans were quick to crack jokes about Gobert being posterized in front of French fans given that the 2024 Olympics are in Paris.

Below you can see the poster in question, which sent Gobert to the floor as Brazil celebrated the monster jam.

"There is no doubting the power of this team" - Rudy Gobert talks-up France ahead of Olympics

Leading up to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Rudy Gobert and France lost four straight international friendly games after winning their first two. Following a dominant win against Turkiye, and a 90-66 win over Germany, who entered the Olympics as the reigning FIBA World Cup champions, the team struggled to maintain their form.

They first lost a rematch against Germany on July 8, before then falling to Serbia, who medalled at the FIBA World Cup last summer on July 12. The team's woes then continued against Canada on July 19, with Rudy Gobert and the team losing 85-73.

Their final international friendly game before the start of the Olympics marked another disappointing loss for France, with the team falling 83-82 to Australia.

Prior to the start of the Olympics, Rudy Gobert spoke about the team needing to find its rhythm in a virtual press conference with media members:

"There is no doubting the power of this team. We are lucky to have a team with experience, but we know if we want a chance to go all the way (we need) to be strong defensively. Our defense will fuel our attack. We are working very hard to be able to maximize our strengths and qualities with consistency.”

Following their opening game against Brazil, the team will be back in action on Monday when they face off with Canada in a highly-anticipated rematch. The team will then play its final game of the Group Phase on Tuesday against Japan, before the start of the playoffs.
