LA Lakers rookie Bronny James appeared in his third straight preseason game on Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks and played limited minutes. The second-round pick out of USC logged in six minutes against the Bucks on the road, entering the game late in the third quarter.

He once again struggled to find his mark on offense, failing to score and missing all of his four attempts. It was a continuation of his struggles early in his NBA journey that has seen him average just one point in 14.7 minutes in the preseason.

But while Bronny James struggled, the Lakers were steady as they went on to win the game,107-102, to chalk up their first victory in preseason play.

Rui Hachimura top-scored for the Lakers in the win with 14 points, to go along with five rebounds. Rookie Dalton Knecht had 13 points while LeBron James and Anthony Davis had 11 points each.

JJ Redick touts rookie Bronny James’ defensive skill set

While Bronny James continues with his offensive struggles, LA Lakers coach JJ Redick sees positive on their rookie guard’s defensive skill set, which he touts as something to build on.

The first-year NBA coach spoke about it ahead of their preseason campaign, highlighting how the eldest son of Lakers superstar LeBron James could be a defensive asset in his first year in the league. Redick said (via ABC News):

"He [Bronny] can do some things defensively at his size that are really unique, and I think can turn into a really disruptive defender. That manifested itself. On the offensive end, he’s still figuring out who he is. That’s our job as a player development program just to build him in.”
“But truthfully, he’s so easy to coach. He’s got a great soul and just a great energy about him. I like being around him. I’m rooting for him. He’s a good player that we’re happy to have in our program," he added.

Bronny James was selected 55th overall in this year’s NBA Draft after one collegiate season at USC. On Sunday, he and his father LeBron James made NBA history by becoming the first father-and-son duo to play alongside in an NBA game against the Phoenix Suns in their preseason game.
