The scuffle between the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns players on Friday, December 27 was one of the biggest stories in the NBA. However, even three ejections and two multiple-game suspensions later, there was very little clue about what led to the brawl.
However, a video on YouTube reveals the alleged trash talk between players during the brawl. The video shows Nurkic turning his head back towards Marshall who called him "bum a**."
"Bum a** N****."
As Nurkic moved toward Marshall, Mavericks' PJ Washinton also moved in Nurkic's direction shouting,

"What! What! What!"
Once Marshall and Nurkic exchanged blows, Washington pushed Nurkic hard on the floor.
The brawl took place in the third quarter of the game after Jusuf Nurkic was called for an offensive foul. While Nurkic was walking back to take his defensive position, he turned around and walked towards Naji Jackson.
Nurkic slapped the Mavericks player. Marshall answered with a punch. PJ Washington later pushed Nurkic to the floor. All three players were ejected from the game.
Kevin Durant also reacted to the scuffle during the postgame media interaction. Without taking any side, KD said that NBA basketball was competitive, which eventually resulted in such on-court scuffle.
Mavericks' Spencer Dinwiddie reveals a hilarious PJ Washington incident after the Jusuf Nurkic scuffle
Apart from Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving giving their perspective on the scuffle, Dallas Mavericks guard Spencer Dinwiddie also spoke about the scuffle.
In his postgame interview, Dinwiddie revealed that while it was obvious that Naji Marshall and Jusuf Nurkic would be ejected from the game, PJ Washinton thought he was safe. However, after watching the replay of his pushing, Dinwiddie was sure PJ was also gone.
"The only part of the altercation I thought was funny was you know PJ came to bench and was like 'alright I just pushed him so you know.' I'm like ok he is going to get a tech whatever...then you see the replay like...'he pushed him.'"
"But I don't think it was bad. I think he was really trying to de-escalate the situation. He just didn't know his own strength."
The Mavs defeated the Suns by 98-89. Kevin Durant led all scorers with a game-high 35 points. The Suns are now 10th in the West with a 15-15 record, against the Mavs [20-11], who are the fourth seed in the same conference.
According to NBA Insider Shams Charania, the NBA has suspended both Marshall and Nurkic. The Mavericks player received a four-game suspension, while the Suns center got a three-game suspension. Later Charania updated that Washigton was also suspended for one game.
