Caitlin Clark shares surprising fact about Yankees stadium visit

It is almost time for the 2024 WNBA season to return after the Olympic break, and Caitlin Clark spent some time in New York during that stretch. It's difficult for professional athletes to make time, so Clark decided to do a quick tour of the Yankees stadium. She had not visited the iconic place before, and the team was kind enough to let her do so.

After the visit, the Fever rookie shared her experience with reporters, from meeting all the players to seeing everything the arena had to offer. She also shared a surprising thing about the Yankees.

"I was honestly just in New York for something I had to do," Clark said (via Indiana Fever beat reporter Matthew Byrne on X, formerly known as Twitter).

"Never been to a Yankees game before, so I was like why not? They were kind enough to let me tour around the facility, the clubhouse, see everything, meet all the players, it was a lot of fun honestly. ...It was kind of funny. I don't know why they would be struck of me."

The Yankees fangirling over Clark shows how far she has come since arriving in the WNBA, especially considering she is playing in her rookie year.

Indiana Fever guard talked about the attention the team has garnered, especially with the arrival of Caitlin Clark

A team's fandom varies depending on how they perform, the history involved and the players included in a specific roster. After a game on Jun. 30, Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell was interviewed by Desert Wave Media. The Fever were coming off an 88-82 victory against the Phoenix Mercury.

She said it felt surreal to see so many people watching them play. She also spoke about the attention rookie sensation Caitlin Clark gets.

"I think the same eyes were on her at Iowa," Mitchell said, "so I think she's kind of like mastered how it's supposed to go. Hats off to her dealing with it. I think for us it's obviously an adjustment. We're new to Caitlin, and Caitlin is new to us, so it's an adjustment as far as those eyes, but me personally, I'm fine."

She credited Clark for carrying herself on the court since her first game in the league. It has been an adjustment for the team so far into this season, although Mitchell has transitioned smoothly. In 26 games this season, Clark is averaging 17.1 points (40.5% shooting, including 32.7% from three-point range), 8.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds.
