Cam Johnson is now in his sixth NBA season and his third year with the Brooklyn Nets. Through 27 games, the Nets sit at just 11-16 on the season and are widely expected to miss the playoffs this season. Despite being off to a career-best start to a season, Johnson flies under the radar as a player in Brooklyn.
On Friday's episode of The Young Man and The Three featuring Johnson and Sue Bird, the Nets forward touched on the difference between a small market and a big market and the difference in coverage around those teams.
"I am completely in support of empowering small markets," Johnson said, as the Nets are considered to be a larger market in Brooklyn (33:28 mark). "I get it on one hand, but, you shouldn't have to be the (Oklahoma City Thunder) and be like, 'If only our team was in LA,' or you shouldn't have to be a quote-unquote star player and be like,' I've got to work my way to the New York Market.'"

Cam Johnson's stellar start to the 2024-25 season
Cam Johnson has been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA this season. In just under 33 minutes per game, Johnson is Brooklyn's second-leading scorer, averaging a career-high 19.2 points along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
After spending most of his career as a rotational piece on the bench, Johnson is trending upward as a starter. His stellar start to the 2024-25 season has made him a hot trade candidate over the last few days.
Johnson is coming off one of the best performances of his career in Brooklyn's 104-94 win over the Toronto Raptors on Thursday. He scored a game-high 33 points on 9-of-15 shooting, notching 10 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks in the win.
The North Carolina alumni's name will be one to monitor as teams continue to throw his name around in trade talks over the next few weeks.
