Can the Golden State Warriors pursue Jaylen Brown in free agency?

After Jaylen Brown’s recent comments made him the center of multiple transfer rumors, several teams have been linked with the player. One of them is the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors had a poor start to the season but have had a resurgence in recent months. They are currently sixth in the Western Conference with a 38-36 record.

Jaylen Brown will enter the final year of his $106 million, four-year deal next year. He will enter free agency after the season and might be used as a trade asset in the summer. Regardless, a number of other teams, apart from the Dub Nation, have already been linked with the player.

According to Heavy.com, an unnamed NBA executive recently claimed that the move would make a lot of sense for the Warriors:

“All the NBA teams might march out in protest if that happens. Like the Warriors have not had enough good fortune. But he’d be a fit there, and they could sell him on being the top option as Steph takes more of a back seat. Getting the money to work would be the problem.”

Hence, while it seems unlikely, the Golden State Warriors can surely pursue Jaylen Brown when he enters free agency.

Jaylen Brown will be a big addition for the Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have struggled in Stephen Curry's absence, who at the age of 35 needs his rest as well. They have also had difficulties winning on the road in recent weeks, and Brown could easily slot in alongside Draymond Green. He plays a similar role alongside Jayson Tatum but will be the primary forward if the Warriors are able to snag him.

Last season proved to be huge for the Warriors’ legacy. However, their core players are getting older and cannot be expected to keep leading title charges for a lot longer.

In a recent interview with The Ringer, Jaylen Brown seemed non-committal to his future in Boston Celtics,

“I don’t know. As long as I’m needed. It’s not up to me. We’ll see how they feel about me over time and I feel about them over time. Hopefully, whatever it is, it makes sense. But I will stay where I’m wanted. I will stay where I’m needed and treated correct.”

While Brown’s comments do not signify that he wants to leave, Jayson Tatum’s rise means that he will not be the primary star for the Celtics anytime soon. With the Golden State Warriors, he is the perfect young star capable of making an immediate impact and will be an interesting fit alongside Stephen Curry and company.
