Canada and Australia squared off in a marquee 2024 Paris Olympics Men's Basketball Group A game at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France on Tuesday. Canada started the game with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lu Dort, R.J. Barrett, Dillon Brooks and Dwight Powell.
The Boomers startling lineup comprised Josh Giddey, Patty Mills, Nick Kay, Dyson Daniels and Jock Landle.
Giddey ignited Australia's offense with a floater and later nailed his first 3-pointer, helping the Boomers to an early 13-8 lead. Meanwhile, Gilgeous-Alexander got Canada going with his trademark mid-range jumper. In the early stages, both teams exchanged baskets and shot well from beyond the arc.
Jamal Murray checked into the game with over four minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Denver Nuggets point guard hit his first 3-pointer and gave Canada their first lead at 26-24 with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter.

However, Australia regained the lead and the first quarter ended 28-26 in the Boomers' favor. Giddey led the charge with 10 points.
The second quarter played out in the same manner as both teams exchanged buckets.
Giddey made two big plays, assisting on a 3-pointer and then knocking down a floater to give Australia a 49-45 lead at halftime.
Canada played with force after halftime and turned things around in the third quarter. R.J. Barrett led the charge with 13 points in the period.
Canada pulled ahead and led by as many as eight points at one moment. Jack McVeigh's back-to-back 3-pointers helped Australia close the gap. Canada ended the third quarter with a 72-70 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Australia's offense went extremely cold as the Boomers scored just two points in the first six minutes. Canada kept its foot on the pedal and took an 11-point lead.
In the end, Australia ran out of gas and Canada registered an emphatic 93-83 win. Barrett led all scorers with 24 points while Giddey top-scored for the Boomers with 19 points.
