Carmelo Anthony and La La Anthony celebrated their son Kiyan Anthony’s commitment to Syracuse
Kiyan Anthony, the top-ranked prospect from New York for the 2025 class, had multiple options to choose from for his collegiate basketball career, including USC, Auburn, Rutgers and Florida State.
In mid-November, the Lutheran High School star announced on Carmelo Anthony’s “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast that he was following his father's footsteps, playing for the Syracuse Orange. The family later celebrated the commitment with their family and friends. La La Anthony, who attended the event, said of the announcement:
“Melo and I couldn’t be more proud of our son. This is such an amazing, major moment for him.”
The former New York Knicks superstar also shared his thoughts on his son's choice, saying:
“As a father, this is a special moment. You’ve got a chance to put the school, the community and New York back where it’s supposed to be.”
Carmelo Anthony led the Syracuse Orange to an NCAA championship in 2003. After one season, he declared for the NBA draft and was picked at No. 3 by the Denver Nuggets. Kiyan Anthony is expected to achieve the same as he joins the Orange for the 2025-26 season.
“I appreciate everybody for coming out," he said in the video. "Everybody in this room had a major impact on my life. It was hard to make a decision. With all that being said, Syracuse University!”
The guard could spend an extended time at Syracuse as Carmelo had expressed his disapproval of the one-and-done college career.
