The New Orleans Pelicans have suspended forward Zion Williamson for one game due to a violation of team policies. The Pelicans' Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, David Griffin, released a statement on Friday regarding the issue with the two-time All-Star.

“This one game suspension is a result of failing to meet our team standards. His dedication to this organization is of paramount significance to us and to him. He has taken accountability for his actions and reaffirmed that commitment to the team today. I’m confident he will continue to evolve positively on and off the floor,” Griffin stated.

As a result of his one-game suspension, Williamson will miss New Orleans' Friday game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The former Duke star will rejoin the team on Saturday to prepare for their Sunday game against the Boston Celtics.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the forward's recent tardiness was the reason for the suspension. Charania reported on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday that the Pelicans suspended Williamson for being late for Thursday's flight to Philadelphia.
