Looking at the Boston Celtics championship bonuses following Game 5 win over the Dallas Mavericks

The Boston Celtics capped off their 2023-24 season with a Game 5 win on Monday to close out their NBA Finals series against the Dallas Mavericks. With the win, each player on the team is expected to pocket an additional $804,000, while some will also receive bonus money as part of their contracts.

Although these additional bonuses aren't always revealed, Dave McMenamin reported on Monday night that Jrue Holiday has a $1.1M bonus in his contract for winning the finals. At the time of publication, no additional players had specific bonuses shared aside from the $804,000 each player will pocket.

This money comes from a league-wide bonus structure that sees teams earn bonus money the further they get in the playoffs. For getting into the first round, teams earn $402,000 bonuses, with those who advance to the second round getting $478,000 bonuses.

Teams that then advance to the Conference Finals earn $791,000 bonuses, with the winners of each conference making $3.1M for advancing to the finals. Last, but certainly not least, the team who wins it all, in this case the Boston Celtics, pocketed an additional $4.7M.

Adding all these figures up, each member of the Celtics would receive a $804,000 bonus for winning the finals, not including additional bonuses such as Holiday's.

Looking at the Boston Celtics' team payroll following championship win

After winning a championship, it's not uncommon for teams to undergo a bit of a turnover. Last year, for example, the Denver Nuggets notably lost Bruce Brown, Jeff Green, and Thomas Bryant over the summer to free agency.

In the case of the Boston Celtics, the team will have many of their players from this year's championship team returning next season. NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown is notably under contract through the 2028-29 season, while Jayson Tatum is on a guaranteed deal through next year, with a player option for the 2025-26 season.

In the case of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, both of whom the team acquired over the summer, Holiday is on a guaranteed deal through 2026-27 with a player option the following year. In the case of Porzingis, the big man is under contract through the 2025-26 season.

Other notable contributors such as Derrick White and Al Horford are both under contract for next season as well, giving fans hope for another title. In the case of young standouts Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser, Pritchard is under contract through 2027-28, with the Celtics sitting on a team option for Hauser.

At the same time, players like Luke Kornet, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Xavier Tillman will all be hitting free agency this summer. Despite that, with eight returning players, the Celtics front office seems to have positioned the team for another competitive year.
