Former NBA legend Charles Barkley did not have much of a relationship with his father while growing up. His parents split when he was young and his dad eventually moved from Alabama to California.

Since he was so far away, Barkley never saw much of the man. However, there is one moment that he will never forget.

During an interview with Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers, the NBA Hall of Famer opened up on his high school graduation. Barkley's dad flew back to Alabama for the ceremony, but it ended up being all for nothing. Because he had failed spanish, Barkley was unable to walk.

To this day, Barkley still remembers how hard his father was on him for how everything went down.

"We were never close but this was the breaking point so he comes to my graduation but I flunked Spanish.
"So I flunked Spanish and I don't get to March and he rips me a new a**hole I mean he goes crazy I flew over in California blah blah blah and man I was already devastated."

Later in the interview, the Phoenix Suns legend touched on his own graduation experience. Since he was unable to be part of the ceremony, he went to the school's stadium next door and watched his class alone from the top of the bleachers.

Where did Charles Barkley go to high school?

Growing up, Charles Barkley lived in Leeds, Alabama, a small town not far from Birmingham. He went on to attend Leeds High School where he became a basketball sensation.

Like other NBA legends, Barkley was a late bloomer. Despite standing close to six feet tall, he did not make the varsity team as a junior. However, things changed greatly for him that summer.

In one year, Barkley went from 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-4. He made the varsity team in his senior year and led his school to the state semi-finals. During his final high school season, Barkley averaged 19.1 points and 17.9 rebounds.

After his incredible senior year, Barkley went on to Auburn University, where he played for three seasons. During his final year in college, he averaged 15.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game.

Charles Barkley left college after his junior year to become part of one of the greatest NBA draft classes ever. He ended up being taken fifth overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. Other players drafted that year included Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan and John Stockton.
