Chet Holmgren is on the road to recovery from a Lisfranc injury in his right foot. Holmgren underwent surgery earlier this year and was ruled out of the entire 2022-23 NBA season. The No. 2 overall pick is now set to have a follow-up procedure on his injured foot.
According to Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman, Holmgren will undergo a follow-up operation in the coming weeks. A piece of hardware is reportedly set to be removed from the Gonzaga product's surgically-repaired right foot.
Holmgren underwent surgery to correct his injury back on Aug. 30 at the Forte Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Carmel, Indiana. The procedure was performed by Dr. David Porter. After his follow-up surgery, Holmgren is expected to wear a protective boot again.

Chet Holmgren suffered the injury while defending LeBron James on a fastbreak in a pro-am event in Seattle this summer. He's the fourth top-three pick since 2009 to miss their entire first season due to injury. Blake Griffin had a stress fracture in his left knee, while Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons dealt with foot injuries.
Several weeks ago, OKC Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault addressed Holmgren's progress from injury. Daigneault revealed that the 20-year-old prospect is already in rehab and watches his teammates from the sidelines.
"His recovery is not behind or further ahead of what is normal," Daigneault said. "It is going very well. You're going to see him do more and more as time goes on and he is doing a great job with it. Those rehabs are dark when they're that long. He has taken a great approach to it. He is attacking it and seeing the bigger picture."
"He is watching from the sidelines. He should be really proud of the way that he is taking this so far. It bodes well for us as we move forward with him."
Chet Holmgren recovery timeline
Chet Holmgren is around three months into his recovery from foot surgery. Despite the additional procedure, Holmgren is still on the right track. Holmgren is expected to be fully healthy at the start of next season.
The 20-year-old big man had to wear a protective boot following his first surgery. He also had to use a scooter for mobility, but recently started shooting jumpshots. But due to his upcoming procedure, Holmgren will need to be cleared before resuming his rehab.
In preparation for his recovery, Chet Holmgren called Joel Embiid and asked him for advice. Embiid missed the first two years of his career because of a broken navicular bone in his right foot.
The main takeaway for Holmgren from Embiid's injury history is that the Philadelphia 76ers center turned into one of the best players in the NBA after regaining full fitness.
