The Cleveland Cavaliers are set to open the 2023-24 NBA season on the road at the Barclays Center against the Brooklyn Nets. Let's take a look at the latest injury report for the Cavaliers and see which players are going to be fit for the first game of the season.

According to ESPN's injury report, the Cavaliers have four players on the list heading into Wednesday's game in Brooklyn. Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade are all listed as day-to-day, while Ricky Rubio remains out for the foreseeable future.

Garland did not play in Cleveland's final preseason game last Friday due to rest. He will likely be available for the season opener since he's not nursing any injuries at the moment. The Cavaliers were just being cautious a few days before their first game of the campaign.

On the other hand, Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade both missed Monday's practice, which is not a great sign. Allen and Wade's status could get changed to out for the first game of the season, but they are not nursing anything serious injuries.

Allen suffered a sprained ankle in practice in the first week of October. He was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left ankle and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. There's currently no update on his injury, but head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will know more about his status at Tuesday's practice.

Meanwhile, Wade had an illness that caused him to miss practice. It's nothing serious, so he'll likely be available for Wednesday's opener in Brooklyn.

As for Ricky Rubio, the Cleveland Cavaliers have shown him support after announcing his decision to stay away from basketball. Rubio took a leave of absence from the sport to focus on his mental health. There's no current timetable for his return.

Cleveland Cavaliers entering critical season

The Cleveland Cavaliers' acquisition of Donovan Mitchell last season proved successful after they finished fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. However, the Cavaliers' season ended in disappointment when they were ousted by the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs in five games.

The clock is also ticking on Mitchell's tenure in Cleveland since the player did not sign an extension this summer. It's a critical season for the Cavaliers, considering they could lose their best player if they don't have any kind of success.

Cleveland's young core also needs to take the next step, especially Evan Mobley, who proved that he can be a great defensive player. The next step for Mobley is to become a good offensive player, helping Mitchell and Darius Garland on the side of the ball.
